Re-imagined Dreams

Part of Alchemy

Thursday 12 April 2012 -
Sunday 22 April 2012

An evocative and multilayered installation created by artist-designer Sabari Majumdar in collaboration with Asha, a Lambeth-based South Asian women's organisation that works to support survivors of domestic violence, including forced marriage.

Arising out of a series of storytelling and design workshops, the piece depicts a collaborative re-interpretation of a traditional South Asian folk tale entitled 'A Flowering Tree'.

Developed using a range of creative techniques, it references both the narrative and craft traditions of South Asia, as well as reflecting the contemporary British identity of the women involved in the project.

Through a play of light, texture and sound the installation invites visitors to engage with stories of renewed hope and aspiration.
