Javanese Gamelan & Dance Summer School

Saturday 18 August 2012 -
Sunday 19 August 2012

A weekend exploring the basics of Javanese gamelan and dance with gamelan expert Pete Smith and professional dancer Ni Madé Pujawati.

This short course concentrates on Javanese dance and its accompanying gamelan repertoire. Participants may sign up to study either gamelan or Javanese dance as their main focus but some sessions will combine both groups to explore the relationship between dance movements and the accompanying instruments.

Gamelan students also have a chance to sample the basics of Javanese dance during a taster workshop, whilst similarly dance students swap and try the gamelan.

This course is suitable for adults and young people aged 15 and over, and both male and female dance styles are explored. The material is tailored to accommodate participants with little or no previous experience of gamelan music or Javanese dance, alongside more experienced students.

Tickets: £45.00 (£22.50 for concessions) for the weekend.

Please note, this course is not bookable online. To reserve your place, please call Southbank Centre Groups Ticket Office on 0844 875 0070 (9.30am to 5.30pm, Monday to Friday), with your preferred choice of gamelan or Javanese dance as primary study.
