Composing New Music: Teachers
If you are a teacher working in music and composition, come and join this session, including join-in practical examples, which uses past Ofsted findings to improve your techniques.
Past Ofsted reports have highlighted weaknesses in current secondary school music provision and criticisms included not understanding how to use internalised sound as a basis for creative thinking, lack of depth and quality in responses from pupils, insufficient understanding by teachers of what musical progress involves and an under emphasis in relating the work of established composers to the composing activities of students.
Sound and Music has recently drawn together six action research teams who have been addressing these issues using examination of the interaction between pupils, teachers and professional composers and performers.
This event, which is aimed at teachers working in music and composition, presents some of the project's key findings and includes practical sessions exploring some of the main ideas.
