Discovering UPIC

UPIC, the computerised music composition tool created by Xenakis in the late 1970s, is introduced by composer Rodolphe Bourotte, who is based at the Centre Iannis Xenakis (CIX) in France. Aimed at the general public, this lively talk features audio and visual examples and demonstrations.

Bourotte studied at the Ateliers UPIC, the music centre founded by Xenakis, and has been writing electroacoustic and instrumental music since 1998. He is especially interested in new ways of considering music writing, based on controlled aleatoric events, and has developed his own computer-assisted real-time information display for performing musicians.

Talks take place on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 April at 3.30pm in The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall.
