Javanese Vocal Workshop - Santiswaran & Larasmadya
Part of VoicelabWednesday 22 August 2012
Join gamelan musicians Peter Smith and Sophie Ransby for an evening of communal singing exploring the Santiswaran and Larasmadya repertoire of Central Java.
These songs combine Javanese court poetry with Arabic devotional texts and are accompanied by banana-shaped bells (kemanak) and a range of tambourine-like drums (terbang).
No previous singing experience is necessary, just a willingness to take off your shoes, sit on the floor and have fun. Participants must be aged 16 and over.
Places are limited so please book in advance to avoid disappointment!
