Carl Davis: The Phantom of the Opera - soundtrack

This very special event presents a live screening of Rupert Julian's classic 1925 silent film of The Phantom of the Opera, accompanied by Carl Davis's soundtrack performed by the Philharmonia Orchestra. More than 80 years after its premiere, Lon Chaney's extraordinary performance as the Phantom - a crazed escapee from Devil's Island, formerly imprisoned in a torture chamber on the site of the Paris opera - still has the power to shock. The film is also notable for its sumptuous set-piece scenes, including a masked ball in which the Phantom appears as the Red Death on the grand stairway.

Please note that there is no interval in this performance. The performance runs for 90 minutes and ends at approximately 4.30pm.
