Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart: Symphony No.40
Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.4
Interval
Franz Schubert: Symphony No.4 in C minor (Tragic)

Mozart's daring Symphony 40 opens this concert - one of his most popular but also most enigmatic and dark pieces. Complementing this are the shadowy undertones of Schubert's Fourth Symphony, the opening movement of which recalls the Mozart. Beethoven's serene Piano Concerto No.4 provides the perfect contrast.

Queen Elizabeth Hall at 5.45pm - OAE Extras. Pioneer of Authenticity. A tribute to Sir Charles Mackerras, who was to have conducted this evening's concert, with members of the Orchestra and special guests. Admission free.
