Anton Bruckner: Symphony No.9
Bruckner's Symphony No.9 - an unfinished orchestral work that plumbs the depths of human emotion - is performed in this, the last of three concerts by Staatskapelle Berlin and Daniel Barenboim.
A classic example of late-period Romanticism, rich with drama and spiritual uplift, Bruckner's unfinished Symphony No.9 anticipates the harmonic musical revolution that would explode during the opening years of the 20th century in the work of Schoenberg and his contemporaries. The concert opens with Barenboim directing Mozart's Concerto No.22 in E flat from the piano.
