In anticipation of Nadine Gordimer's appearance in the spring, we revisit her novel The Pickup, which won the Commonwealth Writer's Prize for Africa in 2001.
The novel looks at issues of displacement, immigration, class and economic power, and the ability of people to see and love across these divides.
