The Poetry Garden Market is an end-of-summer extravaganza of contemporary poetry on the Foyles 'lawn' outside Southbank Centre with poetry for sale in all shapes and sizes, along with readings, workshops and an 'Indian Summer' poetry competition.
Join Inpress poets to celebrate 10 years of supporting independent book publishers, at this day-long event in partnership with the much-loved independent bookseller, Foyles.
11am - The Poetry Garden Market opens with stalls filled with poetry pamphlets,
anthologies, books, magazines and special limited editions. Plus hand-tied poetry bouquets, the perfect take-home gift.
1pm to 3pm - Readings on the Poetry Library Stage, with seven poets specially selected and introduced by Poetry Library staff. Lounge on deck chairs and enjoy 15-minute readings by Inpress poets Vahni Capildeo, John Wedgwood Clarke, Ira Lightman, Rhian Edwards, Lotte Kramer, Hannah Lowe and Kim Moore.
3pm to 6pm - Close readings of work by guest poets with The Poetry School. Unpick their metaphors, explode their imagery and delight in their wordplay. No special experience or knowledge required. Each session is 15 minutes - just drop in.
7pm - 'Indian Summer' Poetry Competition finalists read their work, with the overall winner announced by judge Steven O'Brien, editor of The London Magazine.
8pm to 9pm - Enjoy wine and cake at the Inpress 10th Birthday Party.
All the Poetry Garden Market events are free to attend and are held on the lawn outside Foyles at Southbank Centre. There is no need to pre-book, just come along and join in.
