Art By Offenders: From the 2009 Koestler Awards
From paintings and photographs to matchstick models and soap sculptures, this exhibition features extraordinary new creations by prisoners, high security patients and immigration detainees from across the UK. The work is from the 6,000 entries to the annual Koestler Awards, founded in 1962 by writer Arthur Koestler. This year’s exhibition is the second year of a partnership with Southbank Centre and is curated through a special educational project by current inmates of two women’s prisons.
There are free exhibition tours every Tuesday and Thursday at 6pm and every Saturday at 3pm, throughout the exhibition.
'This annual event is always a unique opportunity to experience the creative energy exploding behind bars. Unmissable' (London Evening Standard).
