Punk Graphics 1971-1984 Panel Disccusion

Hayward Gallery

Thursday 13 September 2012

Accompanying the opening of this exhibition in the Hayward Gallery Project Space, this panel discussion with Tony Drayton, William Gibson, John Holmstrom, Johan Kugelberg and Gee Vaucher explores the provocative graphic art that developed alongside punk rock.

The discussion is moderated by exhibition co-curator Johan Kugelberg.

Tony Drayton was the editor of one of the first UK punk fanzines 'Ripped & Torn' (1976-79) and subsequently the anarcho-punk 'zine 'Kill Your Pet Puppy' (1979-84).

William Gibson is an award-winning writer and seminal cyberpunk novelist.

Writer and cartoonist John Holmstrom co-founded the legendary 'Punk' magazine and produced cover artwork for the Ramones' albums 'Rocket to Russia' and 'Road to Ruin'.

The panel also includes Gee Vaucher, whose record covers and newsletters for anarcho-punk band Crass in the late 1970s and early '80s influenced graphics for political protest as well as music.
