Mark Lewis

30 June - 27 August 2007

Mark Lewis has gained international recognition for his subtle reflections on the pictorial potential of moving images. In February 2007 the Arts Council Collection acquired Children’s Games Heygate Estate (2002) - a major film by Lewis, which highlights the gap between utopian visions and everyday realities. The camera glides around a complex network of empty walkways of South London’s soon-to-be-demolished Heygate Estate with the seamless movement of a computer game. Every detail is precisely planned and produced, from the perfect spring weather to the child actors playing in communal spaces.
