An hour of music, words and action for Beano-lovers big and small. Beanotown is in crisis. Who stole the mayor's gold chain? Someone is trying to put the blame on Dennis and the grown-ups of Beanotown are declaring war on fun. We say the kids aren't guilty! Who's on their side? Children unite!

'It's difficult for anyone to create a genuine Beano "first" after nearly 74 years, but our friends at Southbank Centre have achieved just that. Dennis, Gnasher and their Beanotown buddies take menacing fun to a new level in a show that - like The Beano itself - is packed with kids' pranks, laughs and jokes. If the Beanotown grown-ups really have declared war on Dennis and co. it's fair to say they may have seriously underestimated their enemy! Awesome!'

Asian Dub Foundation have always been one of the world's great live acts and the only band to have been invited by three Meltdown festival directors to perform -David Bowie, Lee 'Scratch' Perry and Scott Walker.

Their most recent album 'History of Now' is a striking tour de force, driven by ADF's trademark adrenaline-fuelled intensity. The collaborators on this album come together here for this live show.

Asian Dub Foundation are joined by Nathan 'flutebox' Lee, Romany singer Kerieva, Chinese string players Chi 2, MC Skrien and the Ministry of Dhol.

Renowned pianist Neil Cowley presents the world premiere of the forthcoming album, The Face of Mount Molehill. Cementing his position as a composer of extraordinary talent, Cowley and his trio scale the summit of the gargantuan Mount Molehill, where they explore the heights of everyday trivia, and score it to a soaring overture of epic proportions.

Neil Cowley Trio has a reputation as one of the UK's most exhilarating live bands. Their dynamic sets of propulsive rhythms and aching melancholy, peppered with Cowley's playful onstage banter, have won the trio a loyal following of fans.

Performing with Cowley are Evan Jenkins (drums), Rex Horan (bass), Leo Abrahams (guitar) and The Mount Molehill Strings, headed by lead violinist Julian Ferraretto.

Petrenko conducts Rachmaninov

Vasily Petrenko conducts a programme of orchestral showpieces, ending with Rachmaninov's Symphonic Dances, the movements of which seem to summarise Rachmaninov's compositional life.

The Symphonic Dances were among Rachmaninov's last works. Originally with programmatic movement titles of 'Noon', 'Twilight' and 'Midnight', the three movements almost seem to summarise Rachmaninov's compositional life, with quotations from his First Symphony and the Dies irae leitmotif that haunts so many of his works.

The programme opens with one of Hindemith's most popular works, full of the dancing melodies of Weber set into a true showpiece for orchestra, and Sibelius's Violin Concerto forms the haunting and dark-hued heart of this concert.

A London Address: Heart of Darkness

Performed for the first time, Orson Welles' unmade film 'Heart of Darkness' has a one-night-only performance on board A Room for London.

Written in 1939, it was to be Welles' first film. He intended to play both the narrator Charles Marlow and the protagonist Kurtz, but it was never made. He went on to make 'Citizen Kane' instead.

Presented by artist Fiona Banner, this special reading takes place 73 years after Welles wrote the screenplay. It is performed to camera by a single actor aboard A Room for London.

Watch a live relay of this performance, which takes place in A Room for London, on our big screen.

This live broadcast lasts for five hours with several short breaks. The audience may come and go from the venue as they wish, subject to space availability.

Spend an extraordinary night above the Thames

A Room for London is a major new collaboration between Artangel and Living Architecture, in association with Southbank Centre. It is a one-bedroom architectural installation in the form of a riverboat. Taking inspiration from Joseph Conrad’s book Heart of Darkness and Roi de Belges (the boat he captained in the Congo in 1890) it was designed by David Kohn Architects, in collaboration with artist Fiona Banner.

Throughout 2012, Artangel has invited London’s leading artists of all disciplines to take part in an extraordinary year of new writings, readings, performances, podcasts and live music webcasts from the capital’s most intimate temporary venue. From Bogotá to Bamako, Toronto to Frankfurt, New York to Stockholm, these world-renowned voices will use the Room as their studio to reflect on the city's place in the world in 2012.

The programme includes a series of live music webcasts entitled ‘Sounds from a Room’, a series of monthly writings and recordings called ‘A London Address’ artist Fiona Banner’s presentation of Orson Welles’ screenplay of ‘Heart of Darkness’, and ‘Ideas for London’, a competition in association with the London Evening Standard to uncover Londoners’ most remarkable ideas to make their city a better place.

Built by Living Architecture as part of their programme of making great architecture available to the public, A Room for London will be in situ throughout 2012 and occupied by members of the public who have pre-booked to stay there. The Artangel programme is part of the London 2012 Festival.

Brahms's Ein deutsches Requiem

Brahms's German Requiem is achingly beautiful, dwelling on the hope of the resurrection as well as consoling those who remain on earth.

Brahms first considered writing a Requiem Mass after the death of his close friend Robert Schumann, but was only catapulted into its composition a decade later after the death of his mother caused him inconsolable grief. He completed his tribute to her four years later with a mass unlike any conventional Requiem.

Ein deutsches Requiem sets sections of Luther's translation of the Bible, dwelling far more on the hope of the resurrection than on the fear of Judgement Day. The first movement, 'Blessed are they that mourn', consoles those that remain on Earth with achingly beautiful suspensions from the chorus. The work moves through divinely beautiful music to the dramatic highlight of Brahms's tone-painting of the resurrection of the dead. Yet the work ends back on an earthly level, a reminder that we cannot know what awaits us.

See five double-sided prints (shown recto and verso) in response to work by Gertrude Stein, HD, Mary Wollstonecraft, Emmy Hennings and Valerie Solanas.

This display is the first section of a collaborative project by Susan Johanknecht and Katharine Meynell entitled Poetry of Unknown Words.

Susan Johanknecht is proprietor of the Gefn Press. She had a retrospective at the University of Vermont in 2007 and is Subject Leader of MA Book Arts at Camberwell College of Arts.

Katharine Meynell artists' books include 'It's inside' (Marion Boyars) and forthcoming 'Mutual Dependencies' (Artwords).

The pair has co-authored and co-edited several books and their work has been exhibited internationally, including at The British Library, Victoria & Albert Museum, The Dean Clough Galleries in Halifax and Mills College in California.

Their work together focuses on the overlaps between artwork and multiple publications, often bringing together an unusual combination of writers, poets, performance artists and forms.
