Acclaimed as 'unmissable' by The Guardian, Richard Goode's recitals have been delighting audiences on both sides of the Atlantic for many years.

'Goode's special gift has always been his selfless artistry - his penetrating intellect, warm heart and nimble fingers are entirely placed at the composers' service' (The Times). His visit promises to be a series highlight this year.

His programme focuses on the compelling works of Schumann and Chopin. First there's Schumann's ever-popular Kinderszenen (Scenes of Childhood) and the piano cycle Kreisleriana, a work of contrasting sections inspired by the brilliant imagination of the German Romantic writer ETA Hoffmann. The second half is devoted to a variety of works by Chopin.

Marin Alsop conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra, performing works by Dvorák, Chopin and Kodály.

When the London Philharmonic Society asked Antonin Dvorák for a new symphony in 1884, the composer knew he had to deliver something special. In the resulting Seventh, the doubts and frustrations Dvorák experienced as a composer are defeated by music of compelling argument, triumphing over its own nervous energy in the final bars with a glorious plunge into the brightness of D major.

Before it we hear a great 'forgotten' 20th-century work, Concerto for Orchestra by Zoltán Kodály. Like its namesake by the composer's compatriot Bartók, Kodály's concerto takes its material from Hungarian folk music, dressing it in the composer's own rich orchestral clothing - by turns rowdy, bracing, delicate and tender.

As the great Italian pianist celebrates his 70th birthday in 2012 his unique artistic stature seems more widely acknowledged than ever. Pollini returns to Royal Festival Hall in a concert that follows last season's celebrated series of five recitals.

In this classic programme Pollini takes on one of the iconic works of the Romantic repertoire - Liszt's B minor sonata, alongside some other Liszt favourites. The Liszt throws new light on the music of his contemporary Chopin in the first half. In a recent interview Maestro Pollini said 'Chopin is obviously a very strong lyrical composer; there is absolutely no doubt about it. But the dramatic element in his music is also very powerful and there are elements where you might look a little more deeply within his work.'

The German pianist Lars Vogt has been described by Sir Simon Rattle as 'one of the most extraordinary musicians of any age group that I have had the fortune to be associated with'.

Tonight he opens his recital with a deliciously witty sonata by Haydn, whose music he has frequently championed, and continues with a short entertaining work by the acclaimed Austrian composer Thomas Larcher, himself an award-winning pianist.
After the pianistic fireworks of Brahms's Variations on a Theme of Paganini, the second half is devoted to Chopin - the immensely beautiful Barcarolle and the powerful Sonata in B flat minor, famed for its central Funeral March.

Pianist Mitsuko Uchida, a trustee of the Borletti-Buitoni Trust, speaks about the Trust's work to develop the careers of outstanding young musicians. She then introduces four of the finest artists of the new generation, all Borletti-Buitoni Trust award-winners and all already enjoying major international success.

Beethoven's popular second string trio precedes Chopin's romantic Ballade No.4 and Scherzo No.3 in C sharp minor, Op.39, played by Georgian pianist Khatia Buniatishvili. The four artists then join forces to perform Brahms's first piano quartet, famous for its folk-flavoured Gypsy Rondo finale.

The Front Room at Queen Elizabeth Hall at 9.45pm - Young international chamber group the Aronowitz Ensemble perform a post-concert set. Admission free.
