How Books Can Save Your Life (At Any Time - But Particularly When You're Doing Time)

Part of Literature Sept-Dec 12

Tuesday 23 October 2012

Exploring the role of literature inside prisons today, PEN's new Director Jo Glanville introduces three PEN prison writers, spoken word artist Simon Mole, writer, critic and broadcaster, Bidisha, and author, screenwriter, and literary activist Courttia Newland in an evening of readings and debate.

English PEN sends writers into prisons across the country as part of its goal to enhance the freedom to write and the freedom to read of marginalised communities.

At this event we ask what role literacy plays in re-offending. Does literature help people to rehabilitate?
