What's China Thinking?
This event explores Chinese thought-systems such as Confucianism and Taoism, and considers how artists explore the tension between these and global capitalism.
Today’s discussion looks at work produced by artists such as Liang Shaoji, who began making work in the 1970s and ’80s as China was slowly opening up to the outside world.
Sun Shuyun, author of Ten Thousand Miles Without a Cloud, joins Paul Gladston, a specialist in Chinese art and author of Contemporary Art in Shanghai, and Chunchen Wang, a curator from the Central Academy of Fine Art in Beijing, to discuss the work.
Please note that regrettably, Julia Lovell is not appearing in the event due to health reasons.
