Busnoys
While taking its name from a 15th century Burgundian composer, Busnoys is very much a 21st century jazz group, which draws inspiration not only from jazz giants such as Eric Dolphy, Don Cherry and Bill Frisell, but also looks further afield to classical and avant-garde influences, including Stravinsky, Cage and Steve Reich, and flavours this rich stew with generous sprinklings of electronica and Americana.
The music is based around the compositions of vibes player Martin Pyne, joined by two musicians who have emerged from the wonderfully vibrant Bristol music scene, bassist Jeff Spencer and drummer Trevor Davies.
Their new album 'by tapering torchlight' has been well received on both sides of the Atlantic, and has already featured several times on BBC Radio 3's flagship show 'Late Junction', described as 'sublime' by Max Reinhardt on the show.
