Lea Anderson | Southbank Centre
Lea Anderson formed The Cholmondeleys with Teresa Barker and Gaynor Coward in 1984 after graduating from the Laban Centre. Branching out from their early performance roots in pubs and clubs, The Cholmondeleys grew in size and reputation with specially commissioned live music for each piece, pushing them to the forefront of British dance and creating a growing reputation in EuropeLea’s work has won many awards and in 2002 she was awarded an MBE for her services to dance. Demonstrating the reach and breadth of Lea’s work, she has been an Artist in Residence at the University of California, Artist in Residence at Circus Space, and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Arts from the Dartington College of Arts and a companionship from LIPA. There is a ‘Lea Anderson award for choreographic excellence’ presented at Chichester University and The Cholmondeleys and The Featherstonehaughs deliver a module at MA Level for Trinity Laban.
Since 2004 notable works include Yippeee!!!, Dancing On Your Grave, Double Take, Flesh & Blood and Flag. Lea’s recent work has toured the UK extensively and performed to audiences in theatres and at festivals in Singapore, Poland, Australia and New Zealand.
